Information We Collect
Drift is designed to know as little about you as possible while still giving you great suggestions. We don't require an account, email address, or any sign-up process.
Information you provide
- Interest preferences — The activities and categories you tell Drift you enjoy (e.g., outdoor adventures, coffee shops, live music).
- Vibe preferences — Your mood and energy settings that help Drift tailor suggestions to how you're feeling.
Information collected automatically
- Location data — Your approximate location, collected only while the app is in use and only when you've granted permission. This is used to find relevant nearby suggestions.
What we don't collect: We don't collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, browsing history, device identifiers for tracking, or any other personal information. There are no accounts. No profiles. Just preferences stored on your device.
How We Use Your Information
Every piece of data Drift collects serves one purpose: giving you better activity suggestions. That's it.
- Generating suggestions — Your location and preferences are sent to our AI service to generate personalized, location-aware activity ideas.
- Personalizing your experience — Your interest and vibe preferences are used locally to refine what Drift recommends.
What we don't do: We don't use your data for advertising. We don't build profiles about you. We don't sell, rent, or share your information with data brokers or any third parties for marketing purposes. Ever.
Data Storage & Security
We take a local-first approach to your data. The vast majority of your information never leaves your device.
On your device
- Preferences — Your interest and vibe settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data stays on your device and is protected by your device's built-in security (passcode, Face ID, etc.).
- API credentials — Stored securely in your device's Keychain, Apple's encrypted credential storage system.
In transit
- HTTPS encryption — All communication between Drift and external services uses HTTPS (TLS) encryption. Your data is encrypted while traveling over the internet.
No cloud storage: Drift does not maintain user databases or cloud storage. We don't have servers storing your preferences, history, or personal data. If you delete the app, your local data is gone.
Third-Party Services
Drift uses a small number of third-party services to function. Here's exactly what they are and what they receive.
AIML API
Drift sends requests to AIML API (api.aimlapi.com) to generate AI-powered activity suggestions. These requests include your approximate location and preference context so the AI can suggest relevant nearby activities. AIML API processes these requests to return suggestions and is governed by its own privacy policy. We do not send any personally identifiable information in these requests.
Apple StoreKit (In-App Purchases)
Drift offers optional premium features through in-app subscriptions managed by Apple's StoreKit 2. All payment processing, billing, and subscription management is handled entirely by Apple. Drift never sees, stores, or processes your payment information (credit card numbers, billing addresses, etc.). Your subscription status is communicated to Drift by Apple, but no financial data is shared with us. For details on how Apple handles your payment information, see Apple's Privacy Policy.
No analytics or ad services: Drift does not currently integrate any analytics platforms, crash reporters, ad networks, or tracking SDKs. If we add privacy-respecting analytics in the future, this policy will be updated before any such integration goes live.
Location Data
Location is central to how Drift works — it's how we find activities near you. Here's how we handle it responsibly.
- Permission required — Drift requests location access through iOS's standard permission dialog. You can deny this or change it at any time in Settings.
- When-in-use only — Drift only accesses your location while the app is open and active. We do not track your location in the background.
- Not stored — Your location is used in real time to generate suggestions and is not stored on your device or on any server. It is transmitted via HTTPS to the AIML API for suggestion generation and is not retained after the request is processed.
- No location history — Drift does not build a history or log of places you've been.
- You're in control — You can revoke location permission at any time through your device's Settings app. Drift will still work but won't be able to provide location-specific suggestions.
Children's Privacy
Drift is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since Drift does not require account creation or collect identifying information, the risk is minimal. However, if you believe a child under 13 is using Drift in a way that concerns you, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Users between the ages of 13 and 17 may use Drift with the consent of a parent or guardian.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in Drift's features or legal requirements. When we make changes:
- The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised.
- For significant changes (such as adding analytics or new third-party services), we will provide notice within the app.
- Continued use of Drift after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
We encourage you to review this page periodically. The current version will always be available at this URL.
